After a strong summer, the physical shooting guard from Memphis (Tenn.) Booker T. Washington committed to Ole Miss.
A former member of the Rivals150, Newby should be right back in there after a terrific month of July. The 6-foot-3 rising senior was as competitive as they come while leading Memphis YOMCA. He made shots, defended and did all of the little things that are expected of a team leader.
A two sport-athlete who has expressed some interest in playing football at the next level, Newby also considered Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee and Nebraska, among others. The three-star prospect is the Rebels' first commitment from the class of 2012.
