Ohio State snags third commit of week in Luther Muhammad

Ohio State secured its third commitment of the 2018 class this week when Rivals150 guard Luther Muhammad committed to the Buckeyes on Friday. A 6-foot-3 scoring guard that has become lauded as one of the top defenders in high school ball, Muhammad is a tremendous addition for the first-year staff in Columbus.

Down to a final five, Muhammad selected the Buckeyes over Xavier, West Virginia, St. John’s and Virginia. A member of the talented Hudson Catholic program and the headliner for the New York Rens program this summer, Muhammad brings an alpha-dog mentality and a skillset that should make him one of the most impactful freshman in the Big Ten next year.

Averaging close to 12 points, five rebounds and three assists per game on the Nike EYBL circuit this summer, Muhammad does have to become a more selective shooter. However, he was able to convert close to 40 percent of his perimeter attempts and made over 93-percent of his foul shots.

Ohio State will lose Andrew Dakich and Kameron Williams this spring to graduation, opening up potential early minutes for Muhammad.

Muhammad is the highest ranked player in the three-man class and he should complement recently committed guard Duane Washington Jr. Where Washington Jr. is more of a scorer thanks to his lethal shot-making skills, Muhammad prides himself more on his lockdown defense. Fellow Rivals150 forward Jaedon LeDee will join the two in Columbus next fall.

Ohio State will host Justin Ahrens, the top remaining in-state recruit still available, for an official visit this weekend.
