Ohio State lands top-100 wing Torrence Watson

The new staff at Ohio State made quick work with the recruitment of Musa Jallow last week and today, they landed its first class of 2018 commitment, that coming in the form of four-star wing Torrence Watson. A 6-foot-6 swingman that can play a variety of spots on the floor, Watson is a great start to Chris Holtmann’s first full year in Columbus.

Running on the travel circuit the past few years with the Team Ramey-Jets United program and alongside top-50 Louisville commit Courtney Ramey, Watson has become the guy that has defended the opponents’ best scoring weapon while also showing the ability to score the ball in a number of ways.

Tough, athletic, versatile and with an improving skillset, Watson is eerily similar to past Butler standouts at the small forward position including Kelan Martin, a potential Big East Player of the Year candidate next year.

Averaging 13 points and four rebounds this summer on the adidas circuit, Watson will be relied upon pretty heavily during his first year on campus next year. The Buckeyes will see Keita Bates-Diop and Jae’Sean Tate graduate, leaving ample amounts of minutes and the opportunity to step in and produce straight out of the gates.

The first commitment in the 2018 for Ohio State, the timing could not have been better for Holtmann and his staff as they will hit the road on Wednesday kicking off the July evaluation periods. Expect for the Buckeyes to be heavily present for Jerome Hunter, Dwayne Cohill, Robert Phinisee and several others as they attempt to lock down Midwest.
