When the day began, four-star big man Payton Dastrup was down to four programs. Now, only one stands after a Thursday night commitment.
A 6-foot-10 Center at Mesa (Ariz.) Mountain View who ranks No. 100 nationally, Dastrup committed to Ohio State during a ceremony at his high school.
The news was delivered to Rivals.com via text message from Dastrup's father David.
Dastrup is a big man with a big frame and wide shoulders. He is a very good jump shooter to 18 feet, passes well out of double teams and runs the floor well enough to play in an up and down game.
A member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, Dastrup will take his two year Mission before arriving in Columbus. Because of the Mission, Dastrup essentially becomes a member of the class of 2016 and will be a much more physically and mentally prepared freshman by the time he plays in the 2016-17 season.
With Dastrup in the fold, the Buckeyes add to an already stellar 2014 recruiting haul. He joins five-star shooting guard D'Angelo Russell, five-star small forward Keita Bates-Diop, four-star Jae'Sean Tate and three-star David Bell.
