Offers starting to come for Garland

After playing at several individual camps all over the country, Philadelphia point guard Tyrone Garland says he will be ready to lead his John Bartram team this season.
Garland is one of two returning players to last year's 22-7 club. The team lost 10 seniors and Garland is looking forward to stepping into a bigger role.

He should be ready for playing with a new group of teammates after an aggressive summer where he played in several all American camps and showcases.
"We are young, really young," Garland said. "The responsibility is on my shoulders now and coach is expecting a lot from me because we lost all of those seniors from last year. He said he wants me to be his second coach or even his coach out there on the floor. He wants me to run the show.
"I learned a lot over the summer. I learned how to run my team and express my feelings to my teammates. Last year, I was kind of quiet. But this year coach told me that he needs me this year to step up and be more vocal… I think [playing in those camps] helped me learn how to adapt."
College coaches are catching on to Garland's abilities. He said Nebraska and LaSalle have offered him scholarship while Virginia Tech, Providence, Butler, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Temple, St. Joseph's, Marquette and Penn State are showing interest.
Garland visited Virginia Tech unofficially in the fall and he said he has plans to visit Nebraska in January and Butler in February.
With a number of schools looking at him closely, the Rivals150 guard said he is not in a rush to make a decision.
"I really like all of those schools just because I really don't know each of those schools as well as I'd like to know them yet because it is so early," Garland said.
