Notre Dame and Mike Brey got their 2017 recruiting efforts off to a big start on Tuesday night by adding a four-star small forward.

Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha wing D.J. Harvey confirmed to Rivals.com that he's headed to South Bend to play his college ball.

The Irish have been considered the leader for 2017's No. 51 player but they were able to sell him on his game being a perfect match during his official visit.

"They are a great fit and I feel great about my decision," Harvey said. "I'm looking forward to doing exactly what the Irish basketball program needs. My goal is to contribute right away."

Harvey is a big wing who can shoot the ball pretty well from the perimeter and is solid when attacking the basket. His go-to shot is the one- or two-dribble pull-up jumper from between 12 and 17 feet, and his size and strength should allow him to make a smooth transition to the more physical nature of college ball.

Mike Jones coaches Harvey at DeMatha and says that the Irish are getting a good one.

"I couldn't be happier for D.J. and his family," Jones told Rivals.com. "He has worked really hard to get to this point and there is so much more ahead of him. Now he can focus on his senior season."
