Notre Dame adds Rivals150 guard Dane Goodwin

After securing the commitments of Rivals150 guards Prentiss Hubb and Robby Carmody over the past six weeks, Notre Dame took things a step further on Wednesday with the addition of Dane Goodwin. A one-time Ohio State commit, Goodwin will help solidify the Irish’s future backcourt.

Goodwin visited Notre Dame following his decommitment from Ohio State, and that trip to South Bend made a big impression on the 6-foot-4 guard.

“I just felt like it was home. I fit in with their players and coaches really well,” he said. “I felt like the academics and basketball is the best in the country. Notre Dame is home for me.

“They provided everything that I wanted. Why wait when you already know where you want to go.”

Running with the All-Ohio Red 17-under bunch this summer, Goodwin has shown his true value as a shot maker and college ready producer. A sneaky athlete with innate toughness, the Ohio native has averaged over 13 points and four rebounds per game on the Nike circuit, while knocking in close to 38-percent of his perimeter attempts.

Capable of playing on the ball in spurts, Goodwin should find a soft landing spot in South Bend thanks to Notre Dame's multi-dimensional offense and guard heavy lineup.

“With the way they play and going small ball there, I really like the fit,” he said. “I looked at how Robby (Carmody) and I are very similar but also different. Both of us can be ultimately successful together since we can complement each other.”

Goodwin is the Irish's third commitment for the 2018 class. Now Notre Dame will look to finish off its class by adding a big man.
