Northwestern lands top-50 forward Pete Nance

Northwestern, coming off the commitment of top-150 guard Jordan Lathon on Sunday, made strides to an even better future today with the commitment of Pete Nance. The 6-foot-8 forward’s pledge to the Big Ten program is a perfect marriage for both sides.

A relatively lightly-recruited prospect prior to this spring, there has not been as much attention given to Nance compared to others with similar rankings. Playing with the Akron Bobcats 17-under team this summer, Nance is the highest-rated player suiting up for a non-shoe company based program.

Loyalty is vital for Nance; he declined the chance to play with more highly touted shoe company teams and instead plays alongside his friends since the third grade. A top-50 forward and younger brother of Los Angeles Lakers forward Larry Nance Jr., Pete Nance is someone who can play a point-forward role. He is a very intellectual and skilled prospect.

Nance’s commitment to Northwestern gives the Wildcats a lethal piece in the frontcourt that can create major matchup issues.

Nance’s relationship with the coaching staff at Northwestern played an important role in his final decision.

“They are on the rise and it’s an exciting place to be right now,” he told Rivals. “I really love their coaches a lot. That is a big thing with me.”

Nance joins fellow top-150 recruit Jordan Lathon in Northwestern's 2018 class. Hopes remain that Northwestern's inaugural NCAA Tournament bid this past season is just a sign of future success for the program.
