Northeast Colleges Interested In Scorer

Wesley Matthews, a 6'3'', 170 pound shooting guard out of McClancy High School in East Elmhurst, New York, is a member of the class of 2003 who is receiving looks from some low to mid-major programs in the Northeast.
Matthews has been hearing from Hofstra, Albany, Central Connecticut, Rider, and Quinnipiac. Albany has offered, while Hofstra has reached out to Matthews a couple of times in the past week. Matthews believes that Central Connecticut and Quinnipiac are also serious suitors.

Matthews, who was the top scorer among juniors in the New York City Catholic League(CHSAA) this winter at 18 points per game, possesses good size on the wing and a frame that should help him pack on more muscle. Matthews is strong taking it to the whole, and while he can knock down the deep ball, he needs to connect with more consistency to be a viable threat at the next level.
Matthews will play this summer with the Long Island Panthers. He will attend the Eastern Invitational Team Camp with McClancy next week, then participate in the Three Stripes Tourney in Hempstead, NY, Las Vegas Big Time Tournament, and the Double Pump Tournament in California. In addition, Matthews will be competing with the New York City scholastic team at the Empire State Games.
Matthews carries an 80 average in the classroom. He has not yet achieved a qualifying score on the SAT.
