Nike: News Notes

During the evening media session at the Nike All-American Camp, Rivals.com caught up with several players, including Tyler Hansbrough, to discuss their recruiting situations.

Hansbrough stated that he would make a decision at the end of July and that he is still considering Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky and Missouri.

“I am not leaning any direction right now,” said Hansbrough. “I am just going to work on my game, talk to the coaches, and see what more I can learn about the schools. I will not take anymore visits.”

2006 prospect Cory Johnson knows he will have to play the small forward position in college, but he was not expecting to play the point guard position like he did during a stretch in his afternoon game.

“Playing small forward is something I have been working on all summer,” said Johnson. “That is where I will have to play in college. But this is the first time I have ever played point guard. I was excited at first, but I settled down. Moves you use inside, you can use outside. You just have to transfer your game.”

Johnson never turned the ball over as the point and did more than an adequate job.

He listed offers from Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State, and Marquette. Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Purdue are showing strong interest.

2006 prospect Spencer Hawes is playing through an ankle injury he suffered a week ago. Since his strong showing at the Nike Hoop Jamboree, his recruitment has picked up.

Texas, Kansas, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, and Stanford have now joined the fray for Hawes. Hawes once again stated that his two dream schools are Duke and Stanford.

Large Andrew Bynum listed Connecticut, North Carolina, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, and Georgetown as his top schools. Only one of those schools has not yet offered.

“All but North Carolina have offered,” said Bynum. “But I visit there in August, and they are planning to offer then.”

Texas big man Kevin Rogers listed a top four of Kansas, Georgia Tech, Arizona, and Texas. All have offered, and some visits may be forthcoming.

“I take the test in October, but I learned I can take visits with a PSAT score,” said Rogers. “I will definitely visit Kansas, Arizona, and Georgia Tech.”

Playing with friend and AAU teammate C.J. Miles is still a priority for Rogers.

“Playing with C.J. is pretty important,” said Rogers. “We are good friends, and all the schools I am visiting have said they can do a package deal.”

Rousean Cromwell is still out of action with the same foot injury that kept him out of the TOC more than a month of go. He did not know the name of the injury but said that he was instructed by his family to stay off of the very sore foot.

He listed Florida State, Stanford, Arkansas, UConn, Tennessee, Georgetown, and Memphis, although he admitted that his list changes from day to day.

Kevin Durant, a smooth and skilled 2006 prospect, has an offer from Maryland, and he also listed Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Texas, Syracuse, Louisville, and Georgia Tech.

Shooting guard Paris Carter listed offers from Georgetown, Georgia State, Charleston, and Illinois State.

2006 prospect James Keefe is considering UCLA, California, Arizona, North Carolina, and Stanford. UCLA, California, and Arizona have offered.
