Newcomer in Mucius' recruitment could make a big impact

CERRITOS, Calif. – One of the best prospects from the northeast corridor, Isaiah Mucius has been a top catalyst for the PSA Cardinals 17-under squad this spring, leading the Nike-sponsored program to a 11-5 mark in league play.

Blessed with great size at 6-foot-7 and excellent ball skills, Mucius has no shortage of quality college opportunities from which to choose.

Oregon, Wake Forest, Xavier, UConn, Temple, Rutgers, LSU and a couple of other schools have made him a priority.

Mucius, ranked No. 52 in the 2018 Rivals100, spoke more about the teams involved in his recruitment.

Oregon: “They are telling me that their conference is built for guys like me, guys that aren’t that strong but are wiry strong that can get up and down the floor.

“They are losing a lot of guys like Dillon Brooks and me being able to step in for next year, they are kind of pushing me to be one of the key guys coming in from my class.’

Xavier: “They pitch me on being more of the main guy because most of their guys are seniors and they will be gone by the time that I get there. They want me to come in and be the face of the program and are pushing all of the new tournaments since they will be in Maui, I believe.”

Wake Forest: “They have been really strong, as well. I talk to Randolph Childress a lot, and Danny Manning, as well. They are a school that, academically, they are really high where I know that I can do stuff after the basketball stops bouncing. They are pushing me to be the main guy but they also have Chaundee Brown for next year.”

UConn: “I am always watching UConn. When they first offered, I was kind of excited since it was one of the schools that I watched growing up with them having Kemba Walker. Terry (Larrier) is there now, along with Christian (Vital); I get a lot of information from them on a player’s standpoint on how it is and the classes, the dorms and the workouts. Me and coach (Dwayne) Killings are in contact a lot. I haven’t talked to coach (Kevin) Ollie yet but will probably talk to him sometime soon.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

While no plans are set for a college commitment, Mucius does hope to narrow things down in August.

“I guess during this dead period, me and my parents are going to look into my recruitment, but not too deep,” he said. “Maybe after the Nike Peach Jam, we will look at things more.”

RIVALS' REACTION

Mucius has remained steadfast as a Rivals150 prospect and four-star recruit within the past two years thanks to his quality size and scoring abilities from 20-feet and in.

Xavier and Wake Forest have been there from the start of his recruitment and both program should be perceived as favorites. UConn could be the dark horse program thanks to its success with New York natives and the interest that the Huskies piqued upon offering.
