New Prep School For Point Guard

We previously reported that Roanoke Catholic's senior point guard Phillip Wall was going to spend a postgraduate year at Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania. However, we have now learned he will be joining Coach Fletcher Arritt's Fork Union Military Academy near Charlottesville, VA, for the 2002-03 school year.
The 6-0, 170 pounder was getting looks from Richmond, Davidson, Princeton, Clemson, and St. Joseph's this past season. He has a good handle and makes wise decisions on the court.

With the offensive players at Roanoke Catholic this past season, i.e., super junior J.R. Reynolds who already committed to Virginia, senior center Todd Mankevicius who is headed to VMI, and junior swingman Matt Nowlin, Wall didn't need to score that much. Playmaking was his role and he did exactly what was expected.
Over the last two years, Wall had 273 assists versus 85 turnovers for a 3.2 assist to turnover ratio. At the same time, he scored 166 career three-pointers, hitting 3 or more in 22 games.
Roanoke Catholic won their third consecutive Virginia Independent School State Championship and their second consecutive Virginia State Catholic Tournament as a result of their win over highly regarded Notre Dame Academy. In the last six state tournament games, Phil had 37 assists and only 7 turnovers (5.3 ratio). His grades and test scores make him an Ivy-type prospect. Cornell, Yale and Penn have shown the most interest with Princeton, Columbia and Dartmouth also in the mix.
Phil is the son of Roanoke Catholic's head coach, Dick Wall. Hmmm, another coach's son who's a point guard. That does seem to run in families, doesn't it?
