Nelson sets first visit

The recruiting process is running smoothly for Derrius Nelson. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound point guard from Indianola (MS) Gentry High School has a handful of scholarship offers on the table, and one official visit has already been scheduled. However, according to the two-star prospect, Nelson is going to sign during the late signing period.
"Everything is going just fine right now," said Nelson. "I have not made a decision yet, and I am torn between some schools. Central Florida, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Louisiana Tech, Jackson State and Loyola-Chicago are the schools that I am really interested in attending at this stage. All I know right now is that I am planning to sign during the late signing period.

"I am taking an official visit to Jackson State on November 18," he added. "I am also planning to officially visit Central Florida, but I don't know when just yet. Loyola-Chicago has offered me a scholarship, so they are near the top of my list. I am definitely going to take some visits before I make my decision."
With scholarship offers from Central Florida, Louisiana Tech, Loyola-Chicago and Arkansas-Pine Bluff already in place, Nelson has a number of options to consider. However, he is going to play through his senior year and see what new schools, if any, become involved in his recruitment.
Now that Nelson's senior campaign is scheduled to start in a couple of days, he plans to put his recruitment on the backburner in-order to focus on the task-at-hand.
"The first game of the year is on November 11," said Nelson. "We play Ravern Johnson's team, so I am very excited about that game. It will be measuring stick for my teammates and I. We were 35-5 last year and went to the State Championship game.
"We lost all five seniors from last year, but we are really up to the challenge," he added. "We should have another great team and we are excited about the first game and the season."
