Tavon Nelson, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound power/ combo forward from South Kent School in South Kent, Conn., made a verbal commitment to the College of Charleston.
Previously, South Kent Head Coach Raphael Chillious told us that St. John's, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Wichita State and the College of Charleston were all taking some looks at Nelson over the past couple of months. But Charleston made the best push to land a verbal commitment and did so last week.
A product of Lake Clifton H.S. in Baltimore, Md., Nelson is a glue type player who does the little things to help a team win. He's active around the basket and a good rebounder who's not averse to diving on the floor for loose balls.
Nelson has stood out the past two spring and summers for Anthony Lewis' Cecil Kirk program. He's at South Kent in order to boost his academic resume for the Division I level.
