NC State lands Rivals150 guard Allen

He had to leave him to make his way home, but Rivals150 combo guard Thomas Allen committed to N.C. State during his official visit.

A native of Raleigh who is attending Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy for his senior season, the 6-foot-1 guard told Rivals.com that he felt the time was right for a commitment.

“I just felt like it was the right place for me," Allen told Rivals.com. "My family loved and I loved it.

"I’ve been loving NC State since Sidney Lowe was there and growing up watching T.J. Warren play there I would go over for a lot of games. The style of play fits what I was trying to do with my commitment."

While the allure of playing close to home for a team he grew up watching was strong, Allen still had to be wooed by Mark Gottfried and his staff. The Pack's consistency won Allen over.

“I really like the coaching staff," said Allen. "The consistency they had recruiting me. They came to Garner a lot and Butch Pierre has been recruiting me since he came over from Oklahoma State. I just really feel like they made me a priority.”

One of the top jump shooters int he class of 2017, Allen has the ability to play off the ball as a scorer and he put up big numbers all summer for the Garner Road program in the Adidas Gauntlet circuit.

In college, he'll be expected to be more of a playmaker and Allen is happy to show off that part of his game.

“I see myself running the team and making shots," said Allen. "I want to be a play maker. Coach Gottfried wants me to play the point and if I need to he will play me at the wing or as a combo guard."
