NC State lands giant prospect

The new coaching staff at NC State started its recruiting reign in Raleigh off in a big way. Literally. The Wolfpack landed 7-foot-2, 245-pound center Bartosz Lewandowski on Wednesday.
The class of 2006 prospect spent the season at Bridgton (Me.) Academy and hit the travel circuit with Eric Vaughn's Blessed IJN AAU club this spring. Vaughn said Lewandowski is a good pick up for the ACC school so late in the game.

"He isn't backing down to anyone and that's what I love about him," Vaughn said. "I really believe his upside is tremendous. He has a great attitude and a hard worker and has good post moves. He can be a pick and pop guy that can go out to the three point range."
Lewandowski made strong improvements to his game from November to just recently in April where he opened some eyes with Blessed IJN. Vaughn said that improvement will only propel Lewandowski onto bigger and better things past NC State.
"I have no doubts that he will have a career in Europe as a professional basketball player," Vaughn said. "I even believe he can be a back up center in the NBA for 15 years, especially playing under Sidney Lowe in college. I have no problems saying that."
Lewandowski is the first player to commit to the new staff at NC State. Former Pack guard Monte Towe recruited the center when he was the head coach at New Orleans but shifted his interest upon arriving to Raleigh.
A wide range of schools flirted with the Polish big man. San Diego and San Francisco were also involved, Vaughn said.
Lewandowski joins New Jersey small forward Dennis Horner to the 2006 NC State recruiting class. Former Pack signee Larry Davis inked with Seton Hall and Dan Werner, another New Jersey native, will likely decided between Florida, Kentucky, Pitt and others in the near future.
