NBA Players Camp: School Lists Everywhere

Richmond, Va. - With nearly every top player in the country here at the NBA Players Association camp, there are a number of schools wanting to know what the players are saying. Here is a quick look who some of the players are looking at.
Texans Byron Eaton and Gary Flowers have said they wish to play college ball together. They listed Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech and Cincinnati. Eaton said he is still considering football even though he told reporters at the Tournament of Champions he was done.

Canadian big man Ryan Wright has made serious strides in becoming one of the top big men in the class of 2005. Schools like Michigan, Michigan State, UCLA, Wisconsin, Stanford and Georgia Tech are high on his list. The 6-foot-9, 215-pound power forward will visit UCLA unofficially next week. He’s been to Michigan and Michigan State in the last month and he’s working on a trip to Wisconsin, too.
Monday was the first day college coaches were allowed to start calling prospects and Seattle wing Marcus Williams received a nice surprise when he answered a call at the camp. It was Maryland calling with a scholarship offer. “That caught me off guard but that’s pretty nice. Maryland is a great program,” he said. He’s also favoring Arizona, UConn, NC State (offer), UCLA (offer), Florida and Texas.
One of the top scoring guards at the event, Crisp Co. (Ga.) High School product Lewis Clinch will be one of the most watched guards in July. The 6-foot-3 shooter heard from Auburn and Georgia on Monday as the two SEC programs try to get in early.
Speedy South Carolina guard Devan Downey has scholarship offers from South Carolina and Tennessee while he said Maryland and Florida want to watch him play in July. Downey had games of 14 and 16 points, respectively, on Saturday.
Rising junior guard Mike Conley, Jr. is enjoying his success with Spiece Indy Heat and the list of scholarship offers justifies his standing of being one of the top point guards in the country. He said Wake Forest, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and, most recently, Michigan State have offered. Conley went to East Lansing with Greg Oden a few weeks ago for a visit and he brought home an offer.
Every event tenders a nice surprise. At the NBAPA camp, Augusta (Ga.) product Dominique Archie fits that bill. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound wing said South Carolina, Georgia, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Virginia Commonwealth, Syrcause and Stanford have all shown various amounts of interest. The class of 2006 prospect will play with the South Carolina Hoopsters in July.
Jerel McNeal, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound combo guard from Hillcrest (Ill.) High School rattled off a list of Marquette, Dayton, Miami (Fla.) and Purdue. He’ll attend the adidas Superstar camp in Atlanta.
Maurice Joseph is doing well in a rare American appearance. The 6-foot-4 guard from St. Lambert, Quebec, Canada said Xavier, Marquette, NC State, Wake Forest and Richmond top his list. Boston College and Massachusetts will have him on campus next weekend for an unofficial visit. He’ll return to the states for the ABCD camp and the Kentucky Hoopfest.
In terms of sheer scoring, Seketoure Henry continues to shine on the wing and the break. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound shooting guard from Lynwood (Calif.) High School said his recruitment has remained the same with Arizona State, Washington, Boston College, UNLV, Oregon, Oregon State, Wyoming, San Diego State and Pepperdine showing interest. He said San Diego State is showing the most interest overall.
Utah forward Shaun Green is one of the best shooters in the country but the 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward from Salt Lake City (Utah) Olympus High School is working with the power forwards to try to round out his game. He said he is favoring Utah, New Mexico and San Diego State while Utah State and Wyoming are also being considered. He’ll unoffically visit San Diego State at the end of the month.
California guard Larry Gurganious rattled off a long list of schools he’s considering but said Washington, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon and San Francisco are showing the most interest.
Alex Ruoff will visit Florida State next week and if the Seminoles offer the in-state product, he might pull the trigger and accept. The 6-foot-4 shooter said the ACC program is in his top four with West Virginia, DePaul and UNC-Wilmington.
