Nations best PG picks the Pack

Head coach Mark Gottfried and the N.C. State program received big time news when the nation's top point guard Dennis Smith committed.
The No. 4 player overall in the class of 2016 and a 6-foot-3 product of Fayetteville (N.C.) Trinity Christian, Smith -- who will miss his senior season while recovering from an ACL tear -- announced his decision Thursday evening.

Landing the top player at any position is always a good thing, but in Smith Gottfried and his staff are getting a true difference maker.
Assuming Smith makes a full return from his knee injury, the Pack have landed a player who has long reminded Rivals.com of a young Baron Davis. Watch him move around on the floor and he sometimes looks like an old man with creaky bones, but once he decides to turn on the juice there simply aren't any high school players who can stay in front of him. Most likely, there won't be many college players either.
A true aerial acrobat at the point guard position, Smith has the best first step in the class of 2016 and can finish with both power and grace. However, he has greatly improved his all around game and has developed into a good jump shooter from deep, has a nice in between game and his playmaking ability for others has been under appreciated by many.
The first player to commit to N.C. State from the class of 2016, Wolfpack coaches and fans are hoping that he is the first member of what they hope to be a monster class. Next on their list is Smith's summer teammate, power forward Edrice Adebayo who ranks No. 7 overall is another North Carolina native. The Pack are also heavily involved with five-star shooting guard Rawle Alkins (who just transferred to Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God) and five-star center Udoka Azubuike.
