Mustangs land New York shooting guard

For the class of 2011, Matt Doherty and his staff at SMU focused on local talent. For their first commitment from the class of 2012, they looked well outside the Texas borders.
Late Wednesday night Brian Bernardi a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Brooklyn (N.Y.) Xaverian offered up a verbal commitment to the Mustangs.

A long shooter who can stretch defenses, Bernardi has a crisp release, good feel for the game and deep range.
However, labeling him as just a shooter would be unfair. Over the past year the lean wing has gotten stronger, started attacking the rim with more athleticism and is a much improved ball-handler and playmaker.
The first member of SMU's 2012 class, Bernardi is currently rated as a three-star prospect.
