MTSU Picks up Commitment

Darren Avery still has the hurdle of the ACT to overcome, yet Middle Tennessee State University is counting on him to get the score and has taken a commitment from the 6-foot-4, 190-pound shooting guard from Corinth (Miss.) High School. Others, including high majors, were waiting to see if he qualified before offering.
“I committed to Middle Tennessee State on Sunday morning while on my visit,” said Avery. “I think I made the best choice. I think they are going to be big in a couple years.”

Avery plans to take the ACT October 25. Several schools were holding back offers until Avery qualified.
“Southeast Missouri State and MTSU wanted me now,” he said. “Four other schools were waiting to see if I qualified, Tulane, Souther Miss, Ole Miss, and Auburn.”
Avery’s relationship with MTSU head coach Kermit Davis sealed the deal for the Blue Raiders.
“I have a great relationship with Kermit Davis,” said Avery. “I really like him a lot and look forward to playing for him.”
