More On Bensons Decision

Craig Benson, a 6-3, 185 pound shooting guard from Hamden H.S. in Hamden, Conn., recently gave a verbal commitment to Quinnipiac.
Benson told the Insiders Report/Rivalshoops.com that he picked the Braves over Central Connecticut State, Hampton, Manhattan and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. He had taken an official visit to CCSU back in the fall.

"I love the coaching staff," Benson said. "Coach [Joe] DeSantis seems to be a really good guy, as are Coach [Steve] Baker and Coach [Mitch] Oliver."
Benson said he is also excited to play college ball in his hometown area, where his friends and family will be able to come and watch him play quite often.
This season, Benson averages 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game for Hamden, which is in the midst of the Connecticut H.S. playoffs.
"I can shoot the three and go to the basket when needed," Benson said. "Quinnipiac recruited me for my shooting, because I can really shoot the basketball."
Benson said he has connected on roughly 40 percent of his three point missiles this season. He also has excellent basketball bloodlines, as he is the cousin of former Florida State player Theron Mayes.
Benson was nominated for the McDonald's All-American game, and although he was not selected, he will play in the New Jersey/Connecticut All-Star tilt at Bridgeport, Conn., next month.
Benson played during the off-season with the New Haven based Connecticut Comets squad, and may play with them again in the spring.
Benson plans on signing a letter of intent with Quinnipiac during the NCAA spring signing period, which will begin next month. Earlier this winter, the Braves picked up a commitment from 6-8 combo forward Patrick Egan.
