Rockville (Md.) Montrose Christian point guard Alani Moore was one of the top performers last weekend in Atlanta at the Hilton Invitational. He racked up 25 points and dished out eight assists in a comeback victory over Covenant Christian.
Despite that performance and currently being ranked in the 2016 Rivals150, the undersized point guard's recruitment has been relatively quiet to date. He says High Point, UMass, Penn State, Rhode Island, and Towson have offered. SMU and Tennessee have shown interest as well.
SMU is a program Moore wants to take a closer look at.
"They have a great coach in Larry Brown. I want to get out there and see what it's like there. I've had a lot of people tell me good things about them," Moore said.
Moore has a close relationship with a former Tennessee guard and that will help the Vols if they decide to make him a priority in the class of 2016.
"I know Bobby Maze used to go there and that's like my big brother. They just got a new coach. That's an up-and-coming program."
UMass just recently offered Moore and he hopes to return the favor by making his way up to their campus for a visit soon.
"It's a good school. They have a good program. I know a few people that go there and they like it a lot up there. I want to check them out soon too."
Moore isn't sure when a commitment will come, but he knows when he'll be signing his scholarship.
"I have no idea right now when I'll commit. I'll most likely sign during the first signing period in my senior year. I want to go somewhere I can play as a freshman and play an up-tempo style. I want to play for a good coach and be in a good culture. I want to get away for college too. I told my mom that I'm trying to get away."
