Monk Thinking About Two Sports

The Arkansas Razorbacks just offered Marcus Monk the opportunity of a lifetime. After speaking with Coach Houston Nutt and Coach Stan Heath, the 6-foot-6, 205-pound small forward from East Poinsett County High School in Lepanto, AR., doesn’t have to make a decision between basketball and football.
“Marcus spoke with both coaches today and they all agreed to work with each other as far as the schedule goes,” East Poinsett County High Head Coach Kevin Kyzer said. “Marcus would join the basketball team at the end of the football season, which works out great for both coaches.

“A decision about attending Arkansas hasn’t been made just yet, but this is a very big move in the right direction,” he added. “Coach Nutt and Coach Heath are definitely working together in hopes of getting Marcus on campus.”
As it stands right now, Arkansas appears to be the overwhelming favorite for Monk. It’s likely that he’ll only take one or two more official visits, if that.
“Oklahoma, Arkansas and Boston College are the schools that will come in for in-home visits,” Kyzer said. “Marcus has already taken an official visit to Oklahoma. I’m sure that Arkansas and Boston College will receive official visits from him, but I don’t see Marcus visiting any other schools.
“Arkansas really made a big move today when they offered Marcus the opportunity to play football and basketball,” he added. “Both coaches are making a big sacrifice, but they want Marcus.”
Rivals.com ranks Marcus Monk No. 129 on the Rivals150 list and the 29th best small forward in the class of 2004.
