M.J. Walker opens up about his previously quiet recruitment

For such a highly ranked player, not much information gets out on five-star shooting guard MJ Walker’s recruitment. He’s collected offers from schools all over the country, but says Florida State, Maryland and Ohio State are the schools he’s in contact with the most. Georgia Tech’s new head coach, Josh Pastner, recently contacted his father and plans to recruit the Peach State product.

IN HIS OWN WORDS ...

Walker broke down what he likes about the three schools he feels are recruiting him the hardest right now.

Florida State: “They have a nice program. Their coach was telling me the intensity I play with would help me in their system. I like the guards they had with Dwayne Bacon and Malik Beasley.”

Maryland: “They were telling me things I need to work. That’s what I like about them. They were telling me things I need to do to get ready for the next level and not necessarily boosting my head and saying I’m this and that. I appreciated that.”

Ohio State: “They were saying how I fit in their guard system and how they run a lot. They think I shoot the ball well. They are big on developing their players there.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Walker doesn’t seem to be anywhere near making a decision. He’s going to play out his last season of travel ball with the Atlanta Xpress on the Under Armour circuit before making any moves. He’s planning a decision at some point during his senior year of high school, likely toward the end.

RIVALS' REACTION

Maryland seems to be the school getting the most traction with Walker at this point in the process, but it would be foolish to rule out Florida State and Ohio State. With Pastner and his aggressive recruiting style now at Georgia Tech, it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see the Yellow Jackets become a major player here.
