Missouri Announces 2003 Signing in January

On Friday, January 10, 2003, the University of Missouri issued a press release announcing that Spencer Laurie, a 6-1, 160 pound point guard from Kickapoo High School in Springfield, MO, had "... officially accepted an offer of admission by the University ... Laurie will not sign a letter of intent."
When RivalsHoops.com reporter Russ Blake published Laurie's decision last October, the young man told Russ, "If they want to get two more guys in the program that would help them, then I will walk on. We all decided whatever's best for the program is what I will do."

By not signing an NLI, Laurie and Missouri coach Quin Snyder have set it up so that this (walk-on) can happen if that is the final decision.
An interesting accomodation in the world of Division I recruiting showing that a "gentleman's agreement" still has some validity at some programs.
