For the second time this week, Minnesota has struck gold with a member of the Rivals150.
Just two days after landing four-star wing Amir Coffey, the nation's No. 141 player Eric Curry confirmed to Rivals.com that he's committed to play for Richard Pitino and the Gophers.
"I just felt like belonged there," Curry told Rivals.com. "I bonded with their team and the entire coaching staff. Their playing style fits me to a T."
A 6-foot-8 combo forward from Little Rock (Ark.) Southwest Christian Academy, Curry is an athletic and versatile addition. He has the size to play down low where his quickness and length cause problems for other bigs. That quickness should also allow him to be a good fit when Minnesota decides to press.
Through the course of his career, Curry should also be able to expand his game to the perimeter where he can spend some minutes as a big wing. He can certainly defend out there for stretches and has showed signs as a driver of the basketball. Early on, though, Curry is going to focus on the things he does best like running the floor and playing with energy around and above the rim.
"Just being able to do well the things they do now I think I can come in and fit in right away," said Curry. "Becoming very comfortable and more skilled around the perimeter will help me expand that."
With Curry in the fold, Minnesota now has a strong three-man recruiting class. The previously mentioned Coffey was a huge local pickup and ranks No. 54 overall while tough wing Michael Hurt is a three-star prospect and another native of Minnesota.
