LOS ANGELES – A tough, active, versatile and skilled ballplayer, Miller Kopp doesn’t find it very difficult to fill up the box score. Standing at 6-foot-6 and showing that he can score the ball in a variety of ways, the Houston Defenders wing has not been short for college interest and offers this spring as he has seen his college recruitment skyrocket.
Averaging over 17 points per contest on the UAA circuit, Kopp’s versatility and activity on both ends of the floor has not gone unnoticed. He is the type of guy that can do a variety of things with or without the basketball, all of which has enabled for over 20 scholarship offers to be received as five of those programs have begun to stand out. “I think Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Wichita State, Kansas State, and Houston,” he said. “Those schools have prioritized me so far.”
Kopp spoke further on each of the programs in the mix the most.
Vanderbilt: “They are a great group of guys. I have been able to check out the facilities and talk with the coaches whenever I go up there to visit my brother.”
Northwestern: “They started recruiting me really hard once the first live period started and I have got to know Coach (Chris) Collins and Coach (Pat) Baldwin a lot. I am going to take a visit I think around September 15 or the 17.”
Wichita State: “It is pretty cool especially since a lot of the schools in the AAC are near home like SMU and those kinds of schools. That is definitely a big thing, having to come back and having my parents come and see me.
Houston: “Definitely close to home and being able to come in my freshman year and being able to score the ball and fill a role that they are going to need.”
Kansas State: “Just to come in and play my game. It is the Big 12 with great competition. Just to come in and be aggressive and get better.”
WHAT’S NEXT
Kopp will finish out his remaining few weeks on the travel circuit with the Houston Defenders 17-under squad.
When it comes to taking visits and making a college decision, Kopp has an idea on how he would like things to play out. “My visit to Northwestern is going to be official in September. My out of state visits are going to happen after July and in the fall. I am going to go up to Texas A&M after this weekend,” he said. “I want to narrow things down after July and then get with my parents and narrow my list down and then make my decision after I take my visits.”
RIVALS’ REACTION
Kopp checks many of the boxes that college coaches aspire to fill in completing their roster. A smart, tough, aggressive and talented prospect, Kopp has had no shortage of college interest but it does seem that, thanks to their academic appeal, that Vanderbilt, where his brother plays football at, and Northwestern, each sit in a fine spot for the rising senior this summer.
