Miles Discusses BYU Decision

After another frequent visit to his home town BYU, Chris Miles from Timpview High School in Provo, Utah had the same feeling he knew he could not ignore.
“The recruiting process was fun, but I am glad to have it over,” said Miles, the No. 15 center and No.123 player in the Rivals150. “My dad and I went to Utah State and watched a couple practices and then went to the end of a BYU practice. After practice, we went in to talk to the coaches in Coach Cleveland’s office, and I just always get a good feeling around the BYU coaches. It was that feeling in his office that let me know what I should do.”

The feeling for the 6-foot-10, 215 pound Miles was strong enough for him to forego a visit Gonzaga.
“Gonzaga already has some big guys, and I wasn’t really sure about the situation there with their big men,” said Miles. “It was not that I didn’t want to go to Gonzaga, but I really wanted to go to BYU.”
So how important factors were BYU’s proximity to Miles and the large LDS community in Provo in Miles decision?
“It helped,” he said. “I’m glad to be staying close to home, but I would not have minded leaving. I did want my family to be able to see me play, though. Spokane has a good sized LDS community and so does Utah State. So it was a factor, but not the main one.”
A versatile player, Miles is excited about playing multiple positions for the Cougars.
“I will mostly play four, but I will play some five and even a little three. I’m really excited about it.”
