Mike Filippone Ignites Northport Past Commack

NORTHPORT, NEW YORK -- In a game marred by whistles and sloppy play, senior swingman Mike Filippone stood out as the one consistent player for Northport in its 57-47 victory over a tough Commack squad.
Filippone scored 17 points, including two three-pointers. Teammate Matt Zepernick added 14 points for the winners and junior big man, Brian Sisti , scored 16 points to help Northport grab this Long Island public school battle.

Northport led 14-12 after the first, trailed by a one point heading into the third quarter after Commack's Tim Regan hit a jumper in the lane as the buzzer sounded for the half.
Commack still led 39-38 as Adam Kalker dropped in a jumper from the left side as the third quarter expired.
But better play from Sisti in the fourth and a litle help from Adam Cirnigliaro helped pave the Northport comeback. Cirnigliaro hit a big three-pointer in the fourth to give the Tigers of Northport more breathing room.
Sisti, who is being looked at by mid and high majors, had trouble getting going for the most part. He faced a trapping zone, a collasping zone that swallowed up opportunities to post up inside. In fact, Northport was successful only three times in getting an entry pass to the low post inside to Sisti.
Sisti finished the game with eight blocks and 12 rebounds too.
Kalker led Commack with 20 points. Thomas Bass had 12 points and Chad Ellis added 10 for Commack.
