Mid-Major Wins Out Over Highs

Cameron Echols, a 6-7, 215 pound power forward from Kennedy King C.C. in Chicago, Ill., signed a letter of intent with Ball State this fall.
Echols picked Ball State after taking official visits to Idaho, Ball State, Wyoming, Rutgers and Auburn. Local schools such as Illinois-Chicago, DePaul and Illinois had also expressed varying degrees of interest in Echols throughout the recruiting process.

"He picked Ball State because he felt it was the best place for him in terms of development," Kennedy-King Asst. Coach Tony Walker said. "He figured if he went to a big-time school such as Rutgers or Wyoming, the development of his game wouldn't be as he wanted it."
Echols averaged 18.2 points and 14.5 rebounds per game this past season at Kennedy King.
JUCO Junction/Rivalshoops.com had a chance to catch Echols in action as a freshman last year at Tallahassee C.C. in Florida. He is an excellent rebounder with a nose for the basketball. On top of being a fine athlete, he's also got soft touch around the basket and does most of his damage in the paint area.
Echols will need to finish up some course work this summer at Kennedy-King before moving on to Ball State in the fall.
