American Christian 63
Senior Prep Charter (PA) guard Rodney Green's 20 points and a 17 point and 13 rebound performance from 6-foot-8 forward Markeith Morris were just enough to propel the Huskies to a 69-63 win over American Christian (PA). If you were looking for the best freshman player in the country, you may need to look no further than 6-4 American Christian point guard Tyreke Evans. Evans poured in 26 points while dealing 6 assists in the loss. American Christian's 6-foot-5 freshman forward Nasir Robinson added 17 points and 7 rebounds.
Bishop O'Connell 58
Franford 54
Bishop O'Connell (VA) used a smothering zone defense to take a big early lead, but Frankford's (PA) group of undersized athletes slowly scrapped their way back into the game and were only down 4 at the half. A basket by Frankford's star junior guard Lewis Leonard tied the game at 31 with a minute left in the third, but O'Connell answered with a dunk and foul by North Carolina signee Marcus Ginyard to take a 2 point lead into the 4th. A three pointer from Frankford guard Alfred Thomas gave them their only lead of the game at 38-37 early in the 4th, but O'Connell was poised down the stretch and held on for the victory.
Unsigned 6-foot-6 forward David Neal led O'Connell with 18 points and 18 rebounds. Ginyard scored the 1000th point of his career on his way to an impressive 17 point, 5 rebound, 3 assist, and 3 steal display of versatility. His free throws down the stretch helped put the game out of reach.
For Frankford 6-foot-4 Lewis Leonard scored 14 points, and Thomas added 13. Promising 6-foot-5 freshman forward Malik Tinsley had 8 points.
St. Joseph's Prep 47
Penn Charter 30
6-foot-4 junior swingman Reggie Redding was dominant early and St. Joseph's Prep's (PA) smothering defense was too much for Penn Charter (PA) as the Hawks glided to a 47-30 win. Sophomore PG Sam Zeglinski's shooting kept Penn Charter within strking distance heading into the 4th quarter, but the Hawks turned up the defensive intensity and held the opposition to just 4 points in the final quarter. It was yet another masterful performance from legendary Hawks coach Speedy Morris.
Redding finished with 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 assists. 6-foot-1 senior guard Corey O'Rourke added 11 points in the win.
Zeglinski finished with 11 points to lead Penn Charter.
Neumann-Gorretti 48
Abington Friends 45
In a game plagued by bad shooting and even poorer officiating, Neumann-Gorretti (PA) took an 8 point halftime lead and hung on to claim a 48-45 win over Abington Friends School (PA).
6-foot-5 senior forward David Burton was the workhorse inside for Neumann-Gorretti against a tall physical Abington Friends squad. He finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds to take home MVP honors. 6-foot-1 junior guard Derrick Rivera added 12 points and 5 steals, and 6-foot-2 sophomore guard Antonio Jardine had 10 points and 3 assists.
6-foot-1 Penn signee Aron Cohen led Abington Friends with 15 points and 9 rebounds. 6-foot-8 junior forward Andrew Jones had 10 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
