Michigan State nabs Gabe Brown

Michigan State snuck one in prior to the beginning of the summer evaluation periods as Gabe Brown, a 6-foot-6 swingman, committed the Big 10 program.

A number of local power conference programs had begun to recruit Brown, though Michigan State was the only school to pull the trigger with an offer. Bouncy, active, versatile and capable of making shots, the commitment of Brown should give Tom Izzo plenty of wiggle room in finishing out his 2018 class.

Playing with The Family on the Nike EYBL circuit this spring, the same program that MSU star Miles Bridges once suited up for, Brown has been leaned upon for his shooting. Knocking in over 34-percent of his perimeter tries and close to half of his field goal attempts, Brown has averaged close to 10 points and five rebounds per contest.

Selecting Michigan State over a plethora of other high-major attention and quality mid-level offers, Brown took to Twitter in addressing the reason for his commitment. “When I was 14 years old and my dad was watching a basketball game on TV and it was Michigan State…He comes out of the room and comes in my room and says, “Son, I want you to play for Michigan State. Tom Izzo is the greatest coach and he’s making pros,”” he wrote. “Michigan State always has been in the back of my mind when he said that.”

The third commitment in the 2018 class for the Spartans, Brown joins top-150 commits Foster Loyer and Thomas Kithier in creating an excellent group of recruits in the fold heading into the busy July evaluation period next month.
