Michigan lands top-50 forward Brandon Johns

Already holding the commitment of 2018 guard David DeJulius, Michigan went to the frontcourt on Thursday by landing the commitment of Brandon Johns. A 6-foot-8 forward that can play in a variety of lineups, Johns is the second top-150 pick-up for the Wolverines.

A priority recruit for the local Big Ten programs, Johns is a fantastic addition for Michigan. Someone that can play either the three or the four, the top-50 recruit is the type of prospect that has come to excel under the tutelage of John Beilein.

Running with the Spiece Indy Heat 17-under team this summer, Johns has shown that he can produce against the elite. Making over 43-percent of his perimeter attempts, the four-star forward has averaged over 12 points and six rebounds per game on the Nike circuit.

While Johns heard overtures from Pitt, Purdue, Michigan State, Indiana and a slew of others, the Wolverines won out. Capable of replacing rising senior Duncan Robinson next year, Johns told Chris Balas of the Wolverine how he might be used. “They are telling me I can mix between a three and a four with them, run up and down the floor,” he said. “I’m more a natural three, but it’s not a tough adjustment to go to the four.”

The second commitment in the 2018 class, Johns will join top-150 guard David DeJulius in Ann Arbor next fall. They continue to pursue other big men options as they will host top-50 forward Pete Nance this weekend for an official visit, and also remain involved for Jerome Hunter, Race Thompson and Ignas Brazdeikis.
