Michael Doe, a rail-thin 7-1, 190 pound center from Choctawhatchee H.S. in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., was a pleasant surprise at this past weekend's NBA Players Association Camp in Washington D.C.
Due to his long arms, wingspan and mobility, Doe (pictured right) is a defensive presence who is difficult to score on, even though he can be easily backed into the low post by stronger players.
Doe also hit some jump hook shots on the offensive end, although he sometimes tends to rush his shots and miss wildly. He would be an ideal red-shirt candidate at the high D-I level due to some of his physical shortcomings, but there's no doubting his upside and potential.
Doe told the Insiders Report that he has been offered scholarships by Charlotte, Auburn and Georgetown, and also said he has an interest in Florida State, Georgia Tech, South Florida, Alabama, Florida, Stanford and Vanderbilt.
As a junior at Choctawhatchee, Doe averaged 10 points, six rebounds and nine blocks per contest. He said he has a 2.9 GPA but has yet to receive the results back from his June 2 SAT test.
As of this past weekend, Doe had yet to be invited to either the Nike or adidas camps, and his only scheduled summer event to date is the AAU Nationals in late July with the Gulf Coast Stars.
