Miami lands top 50 guard

THE RIVALS150: 2016 | 2017
On the last day of the early signing period, Miami picked up some good news when four-star guard Bruce Brown of Saxton's River (Vt.) Vermont Academy announced on ESPN that he will play his college ball for the Hurricanes.

BREAKING DOWN BROWN: Currently ranked No. 49 in the class of 2016, Brown is one of the toughest players in his class. He has good size at 6-foot-4, is very strong and has outstanding length with a 6-foot-8 wingspan.
All of the measurables are nice, but they mean nothing without game to go with it and Brown has game. A pure scorer early in his high school career, Brown is a streaky jump shooter from deep and a physical and aggressive driver. He isn't a point guard just yet, but he handles the ball well enough to be a very good secondary ball handler and could eventually see some minutes running the team in Miami.
Where Brown really stands out is on the defensive end. Pound for pound there aren't many better defensive players and he is great both on and off the ball. He sends his opponent where he wants to send them, has quick hands and is very active in the passing lanes.
IN THE WORDS OF HIS HIGH SCHOOL COACH ALEX POPP:
"Bruce Brown's best asset is his leadership. He competes hard in every drill and he prepares to win. He's a top 30 player in the country who treats practices like games. We think that's special at our level."
RIVALS' REACTION: You have to like what Brown brings to the table. Not only is he ACC-ready from a size and mentality standpoint, he's a two-way player who really values tough play. He will be a good scorer in transition, but based on the body of work he has built over the years in high school we see him as a potential All-ACC level defender. His readiness to play is a nice complement to already signed center Rodney Miller, who is likely going to need a little more time before he's ready to produce.
WHAT'S NEXT?: The Hurricanes may not have to wait long to get their next good news. Five-star power forward Dewan Huell is down to the Canes and South Carolina and will announce later on today.
