Merritt Talks About His Decision

Daon Merritt, the gritty 5'7'' 180 pound point guard from St. Raymond's High School in The Bronx, New York, recently spoke with Rivalshoops.com about his commitment to The University of Richmond.
"I liked the cohesiveness of the program," said Merritt. "They're a family.

"Coach Wainwright's past, that speaks for itself. And as you know my high school coach(Gary DeCesare) is down there, so that was a little push."
Richmond gets one tough hombre to run the point. Merritt is an extremely tough and physical point man who has the edge and swagger of a New York City ballplayer. He is a nuisance defensively and uses his low center of gravity to thwart larger opponents at both ends of the floor. Possessing good explosiveness, Merritt is quick to the hole, and a streaky shooter. A big game player, he's one of those guys you want handling the ball and taking the big shot when things get hairy.
"Richmond is a program on the rise," said Merritt. "I want to be the one who steers that ship."
Daon still needs a qualifying SAT score, and will take the test again in November after narrowly missing the mark on his previous attempt. He is on line to complete his core requirements.
