Memphis guard is making the rounds

Jarvis Jones, a 6-foot-1, 160-pound guard from Memphis (Tenn.) Mitchell High School, is seeing and being seen these days. The class of 2008 prospect has a couple of unofficial visits on tap and coaches are making their way to see him play during the evaluation period.
Jones said Valparaiso and Georgia Tech have made it out to see him while Tennessee, Arkansas, Illinois and Ole Miss have made it known that they will stop by this fall as well.

He attended Ole Miss's football season opener and has his sights set on a visit to Arkansas on Sept. 23. A visit to Georgia Tech could come in the next three weeks. His former teammate, Thaddeus Young, is a freshman for the Jackets.
Jones is claiming offers from Valparaiso, Ole Miss, Morehead State, Missouri and Southeast Missouri and interest from Illinois, Memphis, Arkansas, Georgia Tech and Tennessee. Valparaiso has struck a cord with the young Memphis prospect.
"I like the way their team plays," Jones said. "Plus, they have my major. I want to study meteorology. That's what I want to do. I guess I watch too much Weather Channel. I'm always looking at it."
Outside of recruiting, Jones is preparing for a big season. With Young gone to Georgia Tech, Brandon Powell to Florida and Andre Thornton to Central Florida, Mitchell head coach Jerry Johnson is ready for Jones to step up as the offensive leader.
"We'll be okay. I know we'll go back to state. Coach Johnson said he wants to make me like Thad. I'm feeling pretty good about that."
