Memphis East Drops Archbishop Carroll

LEWES, Del. -- Things could only get better for Memphis East H.S., and while it may have taken them six quarters on Saturday afternoon, they finally got it right.
After shooting poorly in its previous two games, East survived double overtime and claimed an 81-79 victory over Archbishop Carroll H.S. of Washington D.C. in the seventh place game of the Slam Dunk to the Beach national bracket.

In a tightly contested battle all the way, East got balanced attack which saw four players in double figures. Marcus Hammond, a 6-3 junior swingman, erupted for 23 points, while Alonzo Franklin (12 points), Deon Lawson (12 points) and Roderick Rhodes (10 points) helped the Mustangs shoot 38 percent from the floor.
In its previous two losses, East shot less than 25 percent from the floor.
Carroll benefited from a pair of dominant post performances from 6-7 senior Tyronne Beale (29 points/10 rebounds) and 6-8 junior Darian Townes (17 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks). Slashing lead guard Robert McKiver collected 17 points and eight assists in the marathon loss.
