MDC: Morning, afternoon recaps from Day 2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Day Two of the Memorial Day Classic revealed how many top prospects react to pressure-packed situations.

Bracket play began at Ensworth High on Sunday, meaning players faced nothing but single-elimination games.

Gold division: Big names bow out in style

No game may have had more hype surrounding it than the matchup between Team Melo and Team Final and the stars on both sides needed little time to show why.

Donte Green, Rivals.com's No. 15-ranked prospect in the class of 2007, displayed his versatility, scoring on a variety of a moves and finishing with 19 points to lead Team Melo to a 64-53 win.

Like all other Team Final opponents, Melo had plenty of difficulty guarding highly-touted 2008 guard Tyreke Evans, who scored a game-high 20 points. Evans did most of his damage from the free throw line, making just four field goals and no 3-pointers.

Team Final's Nasir Robinson, who provided steady production throughout the tourney, added 14 more.

The highest-ranked prospect in the event, Kyle Singler (No. 6 in 2007), didn't make it to the second round either, but he still managed to leave a lasting impression.

Despite sitting out much of the first half with foul trouble, Singler nearly carried the Portland Legends past the ultra-talented Boo Williams team, which held on for a 65-62 win. Singler poured in a game-high 24 points, scoring in transition and also relying on his soft shooting touch.

Highly-coveted 2008 recruit Clarence Trent finished with a strong performance as well, scoring 15 for Portland.

Boo Williams had a balanced attack, led by big men Patrick Patterson and Ed Davis, who had 13 and 10 points each.

The Family put together a 74-60 win over Team Texas thanks to a big performance from one of its more low-profile prospects.

Point guard Jordan Crawford went 9-of-9 from the free throw line and scored 16 points. Michigan State-commit Kalin Lucas chipped in nine and top 50 prospect Corperryale Harris added eight more.

Nate Miles, a 2007 shooting guard, finished with what may have been his best game of the event, scoring a game-high 25 points.

The Arkansas Wings used a well-rounded scoring punch to defeat the talent-laden Metro Hawks, 73-59. Kevin Brown and James Anderson were two of the Wings in double figures with 14 and 13 points.

Corey Stokes, who strung together some big games on Day One, scored a game-high 23 points.

The SYF Players jumped out to a double-digit lead over the Georgia Stars early on and rolled to an easy 90-68 win.

The Stars weren't able to slow down E'Twaun Moore, who racked up 33 points.

Georgia Tech-commit Gani Lawal put together a solid game, scoring 19 points.

Florida-bound point guard Nick Calathes helped Team Florida pull away for a 78-72 win over the Alabama Challenge. Calathes consistently got to the free throw line, scoring 19 points, and also created several high-percentage scoring opportunities for others. Chandler Parsons added 10 points.

Malcolm Armistead scored 16 for the Challenge.

Silver division: Dramatic finishes

The Silver bracket produced the most competitive games of the day. Three different contests were decided by one point. The Howard Pulley Panthers escaped with a 61-60 win over the Tennessee Travelers. The Georgia Blazers emerged with a 53-52 victory over the Jackson (Miss.) Tigers, 53-52 and the Derek Smith All-Stars edged City Rock 61-60.

Another game was decided by two points as the D.C. Blue Devils held on for a 68-66 win over the South Florida Heat.

Angelo Johnson, a 5-foot-11 point guard from the class of 2008, poured in a game-high 24 points for the Panthers.

Rivals 150 member Terrence Oglesby made several big shots in pool play and that continued as he finished with 19 points for the Travelers. Omar Wattad added 16.

Jarmon Fortson led the Blazers with 14.

Christopher Hyche and Desaun Webb formed a solid scoring duo, coming away with 20 and 18 points each.

Jonathan Flowers continued his solid play, scoring a team-high 17 for the Blue Devils.

South Florida was led by Tremayne Russell, who scored a game-high 21, and Terrell Robinson, who had 19.

Bronze division: Dynamic duo

The duo of Kenyan Harmon and South Carolina-commit Mike Holmes led the South Carolina Ravens to an 81-60 win over California Hoops. Harmon scored a game-high 21 and Holmes had 16.

Darryl Arnold came through with a big performance for MBA, scoring 28 points in his first game of the day, including 11 in the first quarter.
