McTear Looking Forward to Big Summer

5-foot-10, 155-pound point guard Brian McTear is one of those blink and you’ll miss him point guards. The floor general from Crenshaw Senior High School in Los Angeles, Calif., isn’t being looked over by college programs though. He’s on the recruiting board of several schools. Read on to find out who.
McTear is one of the top point guards on the West coast in the rising senior class. He does a good job of weaving through traffic and finding the right moment to score and setting up the offense. On defense, his quick hands swipe nearly everything in his path. McTear is already fielding attention from a number of schools, too.

“There are a lot of Pac-10 schools and a bunch of others,” he said. The list includes Oregon, Pepperdine, Oregon State and Kansas, he says, but his timetable is not set. He’s taking his time and finding out what schools are really serious about him.
“Right now, I’m wide open. Open to anyone,” McTear said. “I’m seeing who’s really interested. I’ll need to take (the SAT) first and then in the early fall, I’ll start to trim my list down and take some visits. I have time to bring on more schools.”
McTear will play in the ABCD camp in July and his LA Rockfish team will make stops at the Super 64 in Las Vegas and finish the AAU season at the Best of Summer in his hometown of Los Angeles. He said he knows his play will be the key that opens doors to more schools.
“This summer I just need to go out there and be aggressive and play smart,” he said. “I want to represent myself as the same player every game. I need to be consistent and play every player no matter if they area high-major, mid-major or a low-major.”
