McDowell Has Several Offers

Beaumont, Texas is probably best known for being the hometown of one of the top big men in the Class of 2003, 6-10 Memphis recruit Kendrick Perkins. But no one should sleep on another talented prep star from Beaumont, Trey McDowell.
McDowell, a slashing 6-3, 171 pound shooting guard/swingman from Westbrook H.S. in Beaumont, Tex., has several Division I scholarship offers on the table this summer.

McDowell told Rivalshoops that he has been offered by Stephen F. Austin, Texas-Arlington, SW Texas, Arkansas Little Rock and Evansville. He has set up an in-home visit with Evansville in September.
Other colleges who are calling to express interest include Marshall, Mississippi State, Kansas State, Wichita State and Tulsa.
McDowell played with the Southeast Texas All-Stars at both the Great American Shootout in Denton, Tex., and the adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev.
At both of those events, he displayed good athleticism and a penchant for scoring in transition. He's also an adequate (not great) ball handler who occasionally displays deft passing skills.
While his perimeter shot is best described as inconsistent, the southpaw score plays the passing lanes well and comes up with several steals on the defensive side of the ball. The Bottom line is that McDowell plays with a great deal of passion and intensity and is fun to watch.
"A lot of the teams that are recruiting me like the way that I play," he admitted. "I am fast and I have a lot of energy."
He made the all-tournament team at the 344-team adidas Big Time Tournament, quite an accomplishment for a player from a non-shoe sponsored club.
McDowell averaged 17 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, five steals and two blocks per game this past season at Westbrook H.S. In the classroom, he said he carries a 2.3 GPA and has tallied an 860 on the SAT.
Following the Great American Shootout, McDowell and his SE Texas squad concluded the summer at the adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas.
We will keep you posted on his recruitment in the weeks to come, so stay tuned!
