McClellan leads Milby to Academy Natl Title

Jawann McClellan led his Houston (TX) Milby team to the 2003 Academy National Invitational title in the National Division as he scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the 80-53 win over Los Angeles (CA) Fairfax. Talented junior Jamal Boykin scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a losing effort for Fairfax. Josh Shipp added 15 points.

McClellan shot 10 for 18 from the floor as well as dishing out a game high seven assists in the winning effort. The future Arizona Wildcat averaged 22.6 points and 9.3 rebounds in the tourney.

Mater Dei defeated Montrose Christian in the third place game of the National Division 71-54 thanks to Marcel Jones’ 30 point effort (12-19 FG, 5-10 3 pt) and 21 points from junior point guard Mike Gerrity.

Wes Christensen of Houston (TX) Kingwood led the Mustangs to the 2003 Academy National Invitational title for the Texas Division as he scored 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in the 65-61 win over defending Texas Division champs Jesse Jones. Jones' Daniel Gibson poured in 23 points in a losing effort.
