McCants Sparks New Hamptons Win

NEW HAMPTON, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Rashad McCants scored 31 points to spark New Hampton past Brewster Academy, 77-71, in the consolation game in the New Hampton tournament.
McCants hit three three-pointers, eight two-pointers and six free throws (out of eight attempts) to lead his team to the victory.

Wes Miller also helped out McCants by scoring 18 points while Michael Clarke had 12 points. Miller also shot the ball well from outside. He had five three-pointers. Miller scored 15 of his 18 in the second half.
After falling behind 61-58, New Hampton countered with a 12-0 run to take a 70-61 lead with 2:37 to play in the game. The Huskies appeared set to run away with the contest but Brewster responded with a quick 8-1 burst, capped by an Armon Gates' three-pointer to slice the deficit to 71-69 with 1:52 to play.
Miller made a key play by picking off Gates' pass and he was fouled. His two free throws gave New Hampton a comfortable margin of victory.
Gates had 20 points, Jamaal Caterina added 19 while Roderick Middleton had 17 points to lead Brewster Academy.
