McCants, New Hampton Fly Past Proctor

BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS -- Rashad McCants scored 21 points to lead New Hampton Prep past a stubborn Proctor Academy, 75-59, in a quarterfinal game last night in the NEPSAC tournament.
Don't be deceived by the score. This game was a tough battle for most of the first half. And Proctor Academy made a run on the strength of Jack Jenkins' 28 points and Tyrell Dortch's 14 points.

Though the score was close, New Hampton had control. They led 23-7 after McCants jammed one in. Mike Konovelchick, who had a solid game, hit a short jumper with 6:40 to play to lift New Hampton's lead to 29-9. The half ended with New Hampton in charge, 40-23.
But Proctor scored the first nine points of the second half to close the gap to 40-32. Jenkins hit a couple of baskets from both the perimeter and in the paint. Jenkins, who is headed to William & Mary next season, also pulled down 15 rebounds before fouling out.
But New Hampton's McCants and Konovelchick were too much for Proctor to handle. McCants, who inked with North Carolina last fall, hit a big jumper to stop the Proctor run. Konovelchick added 16 points for New Hampton in the win.
Besides Jenkins, Dortch, who hit some big drives in the first half to keep the game close, finished with 14 points.
