Henderson (NV) Findlay Prep guard Skylar Mays made an early decision to commit to LSU, but not long after backed out of his commitment.
"I just felt like I rushed my decision at first," said Mays, a three-star point who is ranked No. 122 overall. "I opened up to have the opportunity to make sure I make the right decision."
Mays will certainly have plenty of options this time around. LSU remains in the mix along with Baylor, UNLV, Oklahoma State, Seton Hall, Arizona, Oregon, California, Tulsa, Memphis and Gonzaga. He's already taken an official visit to Baylor as well as unofficial visits to LSU and UNLV.
The progress Johnny Jones and the LSU Tigers have made on the recruiting trail in the past couple recruiting classes certainly has the Rivals150 prospect's attention.
"They are on the come up," Mays said. "They had a great recruiting class this year with the top player in the country in Ben Simmons. They made the tournament this past year. Coach Jones has the program going in the right direction. He's a great coach and a great recruiter."
The official visit to Baylor put the Bears firmly in the mix for Mays.
"It went well. It's a great school. It's not all about basketball there, which is a big thing for me. They talk to you about more than basketball. It's different there. I really like Baylor."
UNLV has done well with prospects coming out of nearby Findlay Prep, and they are hoping Mays is the next one to follow the pipeline.
"They are on the come up as well. They had the No. 1 draft pick in Anthony Bennett a couple years back. I'll be watching them closely since I'm going to Findlay. I'll get to see them a lot."
Mays won't be making a decision any time soon.
"I'll probably cut down my list in December and I'll make my decision in the spring. I'm looking for great academics, a family feel, and a coach that trusts my ability to play. I like playing point guard. I'm most comfortable with the ball in my hands, but I'm fine with playing off the ball. I'm more concerned with winning than I am with what position I play on the court."
