Matthews Will Take Official Visits

James Matthews, a physical 6-6, 240 pound power forward from Denby Tech H.S. in Detroit, Mich., confirmed that he committed to Marquette this week.
But the Motor City big man also said that he plans to take a trio of visits this fall before signing a national letter of intent in November.

"I am still going to take some trips, but Marquette is still my number one choice and where I want to go," Matthews said. "I want to take some visits just so I won't have the doubt in my mind that I never got the chance to see the other schools."
Matthews said he plans on visiting Marquette, Texas A&M and Toledo in September.
This past season at Denby Tech, Matthews said he averaged 16 points and 18 rebounds per game. He said he has a 2.7 GPA but will need to boost his ACT score in order to qualify academically.
Matthews played at the adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas and at the Elite 8 Tournament in Berkeley, Calif., with Chris Grier's Michigan Hurricanes program.
A physical and aggressive inside player, Matthews does most of his damage around the basket. He is blessed with a strong football player like frame, and does not try to play a finesse style like many big men.
We will keep you posted on Matthews' plans in the weeks to come, and should he decide to take some official visits, we'll let you know.
