"It was the right time, the right place, and everything just seemed perfect,"
Matthews said.
Matthews, who spent the summer playing with Team Takeover in the Nike EYBL,
didn't plan on leaving Atlanta committed to Georgia Tech.
"I kind of knew I wanted to commit there, but I didn't think I was going to do
it while I was there," he said. "I really had a good feel for it and that was my
second time down there and I just decided it was perfect. That's why I
committed."
The Georgia Tech coaching staff played a big part in sealing the deal.
"They told me I had an opportunity to help them early and I could be really
successful there," Matthews said. "When I decided to commit, they were really
happy about it and really happy for me."
Before committing to Georgia Tech, N.C. State, Temple,
DePaul and Pittsburgh were involved in his recruitment.
Matthews becomes Georgia Tech's first commitment in the 2016 class.
