Matt Shaw Down to Three; Leaning to One

Small forward Matt Shaw out of Centralia High School (Ill.) is fresh off his first of three visits. The 6-foot-6, 218-pound Shaw spent the weekend on St. Louis’ campus and will spend the next two weekends at Stanford and Southern Illinois respectively.
“It went really well,” Shaw said about the St. Louis visit. “I really enjoyed the coaches and most of the guys. We went out to eat a lot, and I really liked that. I saw the campus and sat in a class.”

When asked about the Stanford visit, Shaw sounded excited about experiencing something new.
“I have never been out west,” he said. “I am looking forward to it.”
Out of the three schools, however, Southern Illinois is the one to beat. After all three schools made in-home visits, Southern Illinois came out the leader.
“SIU has a little edge. I like the way they presented things. They said things I like to hear about the program and how I would fit in. I got a good feel for the players that are there. They are the leader but not by much. I try to stay open on the visits.”
Shaw said that staying close to home is not that big of deal, but of course would be nice. He also outlined what is most important to him in choosing a school.
“Education, of course, is important,” he said. “Mainly I want teammates I get along with and are good guys and a good coaching staff that are guys I like.”
A week after his last visit to Southern Illinois, Shaw plans on making a decision.
