Mason Chooses Marquette

Dameon Mason, a lanky, quick and athletic 6-4, 183 pound swingman, committed late last night to Marquette, according to Dameon's mom. Mason is an active presence in transition and an especially dangerous slasher and finisher. "Coach Tom Crean was very impressive to Dameon," Dameon's mom told us. "He made up his mind late last night and called Coach Crean with the news. He is a much happier kid today."
The West Aurora H.S. product told Rivalshoops.com had also considered this summer Missouri, Oklahoma, and Boston College. Of that lot, he only unofficially visited Marquette (Oct. 2001).

Mason began the summer at the adidas ABCD Camp and then attended the Three Stripes Tournament with the Fire. He continued his momentum this week at the Big Time, where he put on quite a show in the Fire's opening pool play game against the Middlesex Magic (an 87-81 loss).
Simply put, Mason is a high wire act in transition who consistently beats defenders up the court for easy buckets. If he can develop a more consistent jumper and continue to fill out his frame, there's no telling how good a player he could become down the road.
This past season at West Aurora, Mason averaged 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks per contest.
In the classroom, he said he has a 2.4 GPA and has scored a 19 on the ACT.
