Maryland strikes twice with Makhi & Makhel Mitchell

A pair of twin towers in the post, Makhi Mithchell and Makhel Mitchell decided to end their college recruitment a year earlier than expected on Friday as they committed to Maryland. They are the best pair of twin brothers to grace the same playing floor since Marcus Morris and Markieff Morris. Landing the duo gives the Terps two giant, quality presences in the frontcourt beginning in the fall of 2019.

Member of the DC Blue Devils program, Makhi Mitchell has been the more lauded prospect throughout the years. Capable of scoring from the high-post region on in and with soft hands and a toughness about him, the top-50 center should make an early impact. Not to shortchange Makhel Mitchell, the top-125 big man has shown major progressions during his junior summer, getting into much better shape and becoming a lot more productive because of it.

Thanks to the recent hiring of Kevin Broadus, a one-time Georgetown assistant that established the best relationship with the twin siblings and their family, an early commitment had the chance to occur.

"They are just now showing us a lot of love. It was Georgetown originally but now it's Maryland," Makhi Mitchell said. "It is a good school, they have a great coach with Mark Turgeon, good atmosphere, and I just know a lot of players there that show us a lot of love."

Makhel Mitchell spoke further to the Terrapin Sports Report on their pitch.

"He (Broadus) says Maryland is just a good school and asks, "Why not come?" It's close to family and close to home,"he said. "He tells us what we need to do--good habits, bad habits, free throws."

A giant coup for Maryland, the Terps now sport two commitments in both the 2018 and 2019 classes. Solidifying the frontcourt for the foreseeable future seems to have already been accomplished thanks to the five-star commitment of 2018 big man Jalen Smith, combined with Friday's commitments.
